There is one very incontrovertible fact about the national political scene today, and that is that the Republicans are in charge. The President, George W. Armstrong Custer Bush, is a Republican. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives hold Republican majorities. The Supreme Court, also, has more Justices appointed by Republicans than those appointed by a Democratic President. Frodo believes that it would logically follow that there would be a singleness of purpose, unanimity if you will, on an agenda if not on indiviudal pieces of legislation.

As Johnny Carson might have said, "Incorrecto, Camel's Breath."

A few days ago, Frodo was reminded of the miasma of partisan politics by elected representatives with conflicting "special interests." The Senate Finance Committee approved a bill directing the IRS to make electronic tax filing through its' Web site. This would allow individuals, within the next three years, to file tax returns by computer without buying commercial software or paying a professional tax preparer to do so in their behalf. In and of itself, a very noble-sounding effort to make tax filing both easier and less costly for the consumer.

The problem is that the foregoing action is the exact opposite direction taken by the House of Representatives earlier this year when they voted to PROHIBIT the IRS from developing or providing free electronic tax preparation or filing services for individuals.

As Joan Rivers might have said on The Johnny Carson Show, "Can We Talk?"

Frodo offers the following as a taxing mental exercise dear reader, see if you can guess where certain organizations may have directed campaign contributions in the past year?

The makers of the software program "Turbo Tax."

The tax preparation firm "H&R Block."

What about The United States Postal Service?

For whom do these characters work, and why do we tolerate them?

I probably should not even bring this up, because the work that Frodo does to point out the inequities, if not the outrage, of the Bush years is important, and no one should forget it's not right for him to forcing these policies down our throats.

But I live in the Pacific Northwest in an area so Blue it is blinding. It has, in my opinion long since turned back upon itself. Oh, George W. is a hot topic of conversation, and everyone is listening to the newer and newer radio shows showing themselves as equally blue. That's all there is anymore.

I used to listen to NPR all day if I could but stopped a couple years ago because literally ALL there was was George W. Now, I'm a person very aware of PR. For them or Agin them, PR matters. For those out there who are for George's changes it's a wonderful world, and he is reinforced by every pro and con that hits the news.

For those of us who are devastated by his changes with loss of jobs, income, investments, health insurance, Future--it's damning to our sense of possibilities. He made the point, when he first appeared, that businesses would see a New World very soon. This came to be true. Just one example I can give is an engineer who said he "just worked", and didn't look up in protest, creativity, anything but what the job was seen to entail--or he'd be the next to be let go, in a long line of firings. Always justified. It only takes a decade to change the world in this country. More than that, and you have a dynasty of a change. The young grow up with a "different kind of war" to fight.

Don't ever stop bringing up what you see or what you know. People will hear you.

But remember, always remember, that decades ago the IRS touted that their primary way in getting people to pay their taxes was the PR of one person hearing of the Enormous stress of dealing with the IRS. In our time the non-stop for-Bush is a fortress for his followers. And his non-stop, in-your-face actions WILL wear people down, they are designed to do that, at no low cost in expertise and money. Coupled with a whole change in the life as we know it--hey, he says, eventually you will get so down in real terms that you have to go home and survive your losses in work, money, etc. You will give up. Or, with the loss of Health Insurance along with all the rest--die.

I'm just saying that he's good at the despicable thing he does. Don't miss that. He's like a parlor game here where everyone is trying to be avant garde and not like him, but everyone is holding on the their money and feeling like they've made it, political reform is a social game. I honestly don't think they think they are part of the destruction. It's like nervous animals thinking they're it's not them the wolf is after. They've done their work, made money, and now they are ok. Out of range.

I watched a bicyclist waft by the other day on $3,000+ cycle, all the gear. And, on his tee-shirt were the words, "Out Of Poverty Now!" On through the red light, let the motorists scramble to stop.

Remember, that every good thought, every stress-reducing message is a good counterpoint to his objective. His major objective is to be the only thing on anyone's mind all the time til they fall into the agenda.

We've been in such a heat wave here, I've spent a lot of time enjoying your site! You probably wouldn't even think this is hot weather!
